The Destroyed Kvadrat Shopping Center Building

A fire-damaged Kvadrat shopping center structure is seen standing with charred load-bearing columns and exposed steel framing following a massive military strike in Kyiv. The massive attack on Kyiv during the night of May 24, 2026, resulted in widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure in the Shevchenkivskyi district, with the area around Lukianivska Square serving as the epicenter. As a direct consequence of the strikes, the Kvadrat shopping center and the Lukianivskyi Market were completely gutted, leaving behind only charred structural remains and heaps of debris. The powerful blast wave caused significant damage to the entrance hall of the Lukianivska metro station and shattered the facades, storefronts, and windows of neighboring commercial establishments, including pharmacies and retail shops. Within a one-kilometer radius of the square, residential buildings sustained heavy damage, with apartment blocks suffering collapsed ceilings, destroyed balconies, and widespread shattered windows. This attack stands as one of the most devastating incidents to strike the district, leaving ruined administrative buildings and damaged homes as grim witnesses to the destructive force of the combined bombardment (Photo by Mykhaylo Palinchak / SOPA Images/Sipa USA)
